Anna Baer has a unique charm all her own, with hints of old school glamour. Anna is a nanny and vintage huntress based out of Santa Cruz, CA. Her selection of vintage clothing ranges from 40's satin gowns to 60's tiki pencil skirts. Photos of her family, cat, and fabulous clothing definitely caught my eye. How did you start Velveteen Doll Vintage?
I've gone thrifting since I can remember and have always been attracted to vintage. I was finding lots of stuff that wasn't necessarily for me, but I knew someone else would love them and wanted them to find a good home.
As a vintage huntress, you come across all sorts of fun clothing items. How do you describe your personal style?
I would describe it as classic, but whimsical. I love wearing vintage because it's unique, it's amazingly well made compared most newer clothes, it's eco-friendly and doesn't support sweatshops, and I love that each piece has its own stories and personality.
What's your favorite decade when it comes to beauty?
My favorite decades are definitely 40's and 50's, but there are parts of pretty much every era I really like and I try not to restrict myself. It's fun to mix eras some times.
What's your take on drawing inspiration in to your beauty routine?
Make up and fashion for the sake of fun. The whole process of getting ready should be fun and it should be just for you. If it feels like a chore then don't do it. Some days I go all out, some days I'm minimal, and some days I just am not in the mood so I go out in sweats and no make up. It's whatever I feel like.
You come from a large family of mostly females. How has growing up around women influenced you?
So much! I grew up in a big family, majority females and come a from long line of fierce women. My grandma was an artist and model in the 60's and 70's in New York City. She was stunningly gorgeous but didn't live by societies rules. She did whatever she wanted. And my mom is another beauty who taught me most everything I know about fashion, vintage, and feminism. I also have three sisters who are the best girl gang ever.
What's your best self-care advice?
Baths! I take a lot of bubble baths. And naps.
What's your best beauty advice?
Be yourself. Everything looks better when you're staying true to yourself.
What's your favorite thing about yourself?
My ability to laugh my way through hard times and I like my big cheeks
What's something that most people don't know about you?
A lot people think I'm really quiet and kind of serious but everyone who I'm really close with knows I'm actually super goofy and weird.
