Congrats on your new business! What inspired you to start Old Junk Decor?
Decorating my own space, I came across so many funky, killer items. Since I can't have it all, I thought I would start a side hustle to help other people get a hold of one-of-a-kind items. When I told people I was starting Old Junk Decor, some friends told me to keep an eye out for them. Sure enough, my taste in treasures were exactly what they needed for their furniture. I sold only a few things so far, but I am excited to go full throttle in this project and see where it takes me. You won't know anything until you try, so fuck it!
If you could design a room for anyone, who would it be?
My dream client would be anyone who would want me to assist in making their home into their dream home from the ground up! Completely starting with nothing, making dream boards, helping them with themes, colors and making each room with individual character. I am my first client you can say! I just recently completed my living room, and now I have two bedrooms to create and super thrilled about starting. As for designing homes in general, it would be amazing shadowing designers such as Joanna Gaines, who owns a remodeling and design business & Elsie Larson founder of A Beautiful Mess. My all time dream would be to construct my very own dream home picking out every material used to build it.
When it comes to home design, is there a particular era that you're drawn to most?
I love it all! In some cases, I believe the space determines the character of the home design, however, I will never disregard "must have" items to help determine looks. For example, before I moved into my quirky bungalow, I knew I needed a cowhide rug, and my living room went around that one item. I love home decor that's from anything in between 1920's Gatsby vibes to 50's diner looks, to Country cabin feels. I fell in love with having themes!
Do you have a favorite decade when it comes to beauty?
My favorite decade when it comes to beauty would be old Hollywood Glamour. I love how the makeup, including lips and foundation, were matte finish. Elegant, simple, and always looking fabulous. Some days its just brows and mascara, but other days its all about big hair, makeup, & bold lips.
Best beauty advice?
Drink lots of water, wash your face and take your make up off before bed. On your day off take a break from makeup let your face breathe. You'll see a difference the next time you put on your face, lashes always feel more full.
Best way to practice self-care?
My favorite thing for self care is taking a mental health day. Get work off, read a book, wear PJs, make comfort food, no make up and straight chill. Throw on a favorite show, take time for YOU. Its important to take time for yourself, and have no shame if you want to sleep all day and roach out.
What's something that most people don't know about you?
I love mysteries, suspenseful, detective shows like Law & Order: SVU, I can watch that show all day everyday. Also Lifetime Movies that are cheesy horrors.
What's your favorite thing about yourself?
I have always been down to earth. I like to consider myself more on the chill side. I like to stay in my own lane and do what I like. I like to follow my intuition, and feel things out, moments where I feel overwhelmed or strange vibes I have no problem avoiding those kind of situations. I don't like competition, I feel like there's enough pie for everyone.
